Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float between Labor & Delivery (L&D), Mother Baby, and Obstetric Special Care units as needed
  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend requirement: 3 weekends per 4-week schedule
  • Guaranteed hours:
    • 36 hours for 3 twelve-hour shifts
    • 48 hours for 4 twelve-hour shifts
    • 40 hours for shifts under 12 hours (8 or 10-hour shifts)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • Experience with Epic electronic charting system

Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • AWHONN certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Work Environment & Unit Details

  • L&D unit includes 12 Labor Delivery Recovery rooms, 3 Operating Rooms, 6 OB triage beds, and 8 OB Special Care beds
  • Mother Baby Center has 34 rooms providing postpartum and newborn care; Baby Friendly recognized
  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma status
  • Total staffed beds: 632
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Parking: Free with badge

Schedule & Floating

  • Floating within scope between L&D, Mother Baby, and OB Special Care units based on census
  • No on-call requirement
  • Locals accepted; no local radius restrictions
  • Block schedule accommodation: To be determined

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • RTO (Request Time Off) must be submitted at profile submission; no approvals after contract signing
  • Background checks required within 30 days of assignment start, including:
    • 7-year Social Security Number trace
    • National criminal history search
    • National sex offender database search
    • FACIS Level 3 search
    • Education verification
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, noting latex sensitivity
  • Drug screening: 10-panel with THC within 30 days of start (medical marijuana cards or dilute screens not accepted)
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, plus annual TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification or booster/declination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or booster/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • OSHA respirator fit mask form to be completed at least 1 week prior to start; fit testing onsite at orientation
  • Facility-specific modules completed onsite at orientation (some units require pre-start modules)
  • Competency exams required, including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams

References & History

  • Two references from previous employers required
  • Current resume with at least 7 years of work history required
  • Skills checklist and application with complete work history required

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color: Hunter Green
  • Must comply with all facility-specific documents and agreements prior to start
  • Fingerprinting required only for specific Michigan locations (not applicable here unless specified)

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with travel experience who are comfortable floating between related OB units and working night shifts with weekend requirements.
