Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Float between Labor & Delivery (L&D), Mother Baby, and Obstetric Special Care units based on census and staffing needs.
  • Shifts assigned variably; not alternating shifts.
  • Shift options: Day or Night, 3 shifts per week, each 12 hours (36 hours/week typical).
  • Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends per 4-week schedule.
  • No on-call required.
  • Locals accepted; no local radius restrictions.
  • Pending license accepted if active by start date.
  • Must submit Return to Office (RTO) requests at profile submission; no approvals after contract signing.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • AWHONN (Advanced or Intermediate level)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic charting system.

Work Environment

  • Facility is a Magnet-recognized, teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation.
  • L&D unit includes 12 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, 3 Operating Rooms, 6 OB triage beds, and 8 OB Special Care beds.
  • Mother Baby Center has 34 rooms providing postpartum and newborn care; recognized as Baby Friendly.
  • Staffing model follows AWHONN guidelines.

Hours & Scheduling

  • Guaranteed hours:
    • 36 hours for 3 shifts (12 hours each)
    • 48 hours for 4 shifts (12 hours each)
    • 40 hours for shifts under 12 hours (8 or 10-hour shifts)
  • Block scheduling accommodation: To be determined.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks within 30 days of assignment start, including:
    • 7-year multi-state/multi-county criminal history
    • Social Security Number trace
    • National Sex Offender Database search
    • FACIS Level 3 search
    • Education verification (highest level required)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel with THC, within 30 days of start; medical marijuana cards or dilute screens not accepted.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, noting latex sensitivity.
  • Immunizations and titers required or documented immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titers)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccination series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; if positive PPD, negative chest x-ray plus TB questionnaire required annually.
  • OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed at least 1 week prior to start; fit testing done onsite.
  • Flu vaccination or declination required for start dates during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • Facility-specific modules completed onsite at orientation; some units require pre-start modules (not billable).

Additional Requirements

  • Resume with 7-year work history and 2 references from previous employers.
  • Skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams required.
  • Must agree to float within scope between L&D and Mother Baby units.
