Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract in Columbus, Ohio
Job Overview

- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Float between various Oncology Medical-Surgical units as needed, including PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and MS (Medical-Surgical) units.
- Work in a locked corrections unit with controlled access by Corrections Officers (CO).
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 in PCU, 1:4-5 in MS.
- CO to inmate ratio: 1:2.
- Shift assignments may rotate between days and nights depending on staffing needs.
- Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements.
- Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses, oncology workup admissions, history of cancer patients admitted for other reasons, and non-oncology diagnoses.
- Utilize Pyxis medication system and EPIC documentation system (EPIC charting experience required).
- Ensure staff safety in a secure corrections environment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with recent experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with EPIC electronic health records system
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis and renal failure management
- PICC line management
- Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) management
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Tracheostomy management
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes required).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) with mask requirement if declined
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
- Fingerprinting results must be completed and approved prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions.
Work Environment
- Secure corrections health unit with controlled access and safety protocols.
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory services, social services, and rapid response teams.
- Patient care involves complex medical-surgical and telemetry nursing in a corrections setting.
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Oncology experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- EPIC charting experience is mandatory.
- Shift assignments and rotations are subject to staffing needs and may change every 4 weeks.
