Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work setting includes Intermediate Care (IMC), Stepdown, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Telemetry.
  • Patient ratios and daily caseload details not specified.
  • Floating within scope of practice as needed to meet facility needs.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • Block scheduling may be discussed with manager.
  • Local candidates accepted without radius restrictions.
  • No on-call requirement.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Cardiovascular care experience including post-myocardial infarction (MI), pre/post cardiac catheterization, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR Band management
  • Renal care experience including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including accessing ports, arterial line management, central line care/management, and PICC line management
  • Medication management including patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), procedural sedation administration, and titration of cardiac drips
  • Neurological and psychiatric care experience including craniotomy, cerebrovascular accident (CVA), pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic care experience including orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements
  • Plastic surgery care including skin grafts

Work Environment

  • Acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Magnet designated hospital and Level I trauma center
  • Scrub color: any solid color allowed
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking permit required but no cost for parking

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and other state-specific searches (Illinois)
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • TB testing: 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold within 1 year of start; chest x-ray if positive TB test
  • Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry results required for clinical candidates without an IL license (must be done in Illinois)
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • Two professional references required for travel and acute care clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
  • Code of conduct acknowledgment required within 7 days of contract signing
  • Parking permit form must be completed within 7 days of contract signing (unless using alternative transportation)

Notes

  • Candidates may be called off up to 36 hours during the 13-week assignment without pay for those hours.
  • Candidates should be prepared to float as needed within their scope of practice.
  • No prior travel experience is required for this position.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and stepdown care skills seeking a travel contract in an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital setting.
