Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Midland, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (40 hours/week)

Job Description
- Start date preferred within the next 3-5 weeks
- Must assist with coverage in Pre-Op
- Experience required with pediatric patients and critical care strongly preferred
- Experience recovering patients from ortho, neuro, general, urology, dental (adults and pediatrics), GYN, and pediatric ENT (Tonsil & Adenoidectomy, BMT, etc.) surgeries
- Experience monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines (A-lines)
- Level II trauma experience preferred
- 2 years of nursing experience preferred (all surgeries except cardiac)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care, with experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines (A-lines)
- Experience with orthopedic, neurology, urology, and ENT surgeries
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ER and as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - required for all clinical positions
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - preferred for L&D (Intermediate or Advanced AWHONN)
- Chemotherapy certification - required as applicable
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - required as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - required, updated annually
Required Licenses and Verifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- State license verification required within 30 days of start
- Technical certification verification (if applicable) within 30 days of start
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred, including pediatric and critical care experience
- Experience with a broad range of surgical recoveries (excluding cardiac surgeries)
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 10-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including SSN trace and all locations lived/worked
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history check required within 30 days prior to start
- Texas Employee Misconduct Registry and Employability Status Checks required within 30 days prior to start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; additional onsite drug screen upon arrival
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- N95 Fit Test required within 1 year of start (PAPR not accepted)
- TB screening: Negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months of start; positive results require chest x-ray and annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations/vaccinations required within 72 hours of signing contract or documented positive titers:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or agency declination required October 1 - March 31 (masking may be required if declined)
Additional Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign confidentiality, security, drug screening consent, TB questionnaire, and compliance checklists prior to start
- Two professional references required within 3 years of start
- Resume or employment application copy required
- Skills checklist required and must be updated annually
- Age-specific competency exams and general competency exams required within 1 year of start
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
Work Environment
- Level II trauma center experience preferred
- Exposure to a variety of surgical specialties and pediatric critical care
- Call coverage required in addition to regular day shift hours
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with pediatric and critical care experience seeking a travel contract in a surgical recovery and pediatric PACU setting.
