Job Opportunity: PCU Float Registered Nurse

Location: San Angelo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Support inpatient units including Medical-Surgical (MS), MS/Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Work a 4x12 hour night shift schedule.
  • Epic electronic health record experience preferred.
  • Every other weekend work required.
  • Start date expected within 3-5 weeks with bi-weekly orientation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card.
  • Background check (7-year, including statewide, federal, education verification, and international if applicable).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or diploma as placeholder if pending.
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Facility-specific forms including health record, code of conduct, confidentiality, information system security, orientation updates, and vaccine exemption forms (if applicable).
  • Passport-style photo for badge.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Fit test within 6 months prior to start; annual updates required.
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold, TSpot, or 2 PPDs within 1 year).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or completed series; declination form if no positive titer.
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of chickenpox disease.
  • Drug testing required within 30 days; must include standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Oct 31 – Mar 31).
  • Initial COVID-19 vaccination series required; boosters not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within the last 3 years.
  • Copy of resume or employment application.
  • Annual updates required for skills checklist and orientation safety manual acknowledgment.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic inpatient setting with a focus on progressive care and telemetry patients during night shifts. Prior travel nursing experience and required certifications ensure readiness to provide high-quality patient care.
