Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Inpatient Rehab
Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Inpatient Rehab
- Beds: 7
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:7
- Float between Inpatient Rehab Unit and Level 7 General Med/Surg when census requires
- No charge nurse on shift; 1 nurse and 1 patient care technician (PCT) per shift
- PCT-to-Patient Ratio: 1:7
- No Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs do not read strips
- Weekly interdisciplinary team meeting attendance required
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- CVA (Stroke)
- TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack)
- MI (Myocardial Infarction)
- Hip Fracture
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Exacerbation of Chronic Conditions
- Debility
- Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA)
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS Certification
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical or Rehab nursing experience (prefer prior rehab experience)
- Must be comfortable working independently
- Must disclose any licensing issues at time of submission
- Must include a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with application
- No requirement to titrate drips; no common titratable drips on unit
Clinical & Equipment Information
- Rehab therapies available: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)
- Respiratory equipment used: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow oxygen
Scheduling & Work Environment
- No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedules are set but adjusted for vacations and holidays
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday rotation may be required, alternating between two groups of holidays every other year
- No on-call requirement; standby only if no census on unit
- Floating may occur only if no census on rehab unit; float assignments include Medical-Surgical, Medical-Surgical Telemetry, or Intermediate Care Unit for lower acuity patients
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for nurses; Ceil blue scrubs for PCTs
- Orientation: 1 day with educator plus 1-2 days with preceptor
Additional Notes
- No ward clerk or secretary on unit; part-time unit case manager available
- 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate submissions
