Description
Radiation Therapist - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Cancer Services/Oncology)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (8-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed
Job Description
- Operate Ethos or Varian radiation therapy machines (experience preferred).
- Perform radiation therapy treatments including External Beam Therapy and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy).
- Utilize skills such as tumor localization, block cutting, custom molds and shields, CBCT/kV/mV imaging, compensation filters, portal cast, wedges, and radiation dose calculation.
- Work independently in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and strong communication skills.
- Floating required to other Radiation Oncology locations.
- Use of lift/transfer devices, isolation precautions/PPE, radiation safety protocols, and participation in rapid response/code teams.
- EPIC system experience required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in New York.
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience, with experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Experience
- Specialty experience in Radiation Therapy/Cancer Services.
- No explicit minimum years of experience stated; preference for candidates with experience on Ethos or Varian machines.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification from primary source.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and updated monthly.
- Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable.
- Transcript/diploma and education verification as required.
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background).
- Completion of facility-specific pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.
Additional Certifications (As Required by Unit)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual update)
Competencies
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required.
- Color blindness testing (one-time).
- Competency exams as required by specialty.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start.
Employment History and References
- Verification of at least two past employments required.
- Two professional references within 3 years required (for direct hire candidates).
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required.
Notes
- Local candidates accepted but must live more than 75 miles from the facility.
- Floating to other Radiation Oncology locations is required.
- Must be dependable, punctual, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively.
