Description
Registered Nurse – MICU (Columbus, Ohio)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; floating to other units may be required
Unit & Patient Details
Adult patient population
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1
Common nursing responsibilities include:
- Ventilator management
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade
- Management of arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines
- Blood product administration
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead EKGs
- Hypothermia protocol, stroke and neuro care
- BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Wound vacs, isolation precautions, infection prevention
Equipment used:
- NxStage CRRT
- Alaris IV pumps
- GE cardiac monitors and ventilators
- Patient room lifts
- Externalized IV pumps for COVID-positive patients
Support services available:
- IV team, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services
- Rapid response team, transportation, unit secretary, interpretation services
- Nurse Practitioner (NP), anesthesiology, and CRNA support
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
- Confidential fraud, waste, and abuse reporting mechanism form required prior to start
- Fingerprinting results must be submitted and approved before starting assignment; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions
- Candidates must comply with facility-specific background and credentialing processes
