Description

Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Summary

  • Work primarily in a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with required NICU experience.
  • Must be proficient with neonatal oscillating ventilators and have experience with Draeger vents and high frequency jet vents.
  • Floating between NICU and Pediatric units, as well as between Bridgeport and Milford campuses, based on census and staffing needs.
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
  • May be asked to orientate students or new hires.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Connecticut.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with neonate patients.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Prior travel experience.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Short-term acute care hospital with 426 staffed beds.
  • Level II Trauma Center.
  • Electronic charting system: EPIC.
  • Free parking available.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and sex offender search.
  • Verification of education and licensure, including foreign equivalency evaluations if applicable.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 12 months.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation.
    • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties (declination accepted).
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination.
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination.
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or declination.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Various mandatory training modules and attestations including:
    • Language Services Training
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
    • CAUTI Education Training (not required for NICU)
    • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (not required for NICU)
    • Patient Bedside Rounding
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for NICU)
    • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (effective 5/31/2024)
    • EPIC testing or training as applicable
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing (minimum passing scores required).
  • Employment history verification covering the last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days.
  • References required, including at least one supervisor reference for RRT candidates.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name for identity verification on the first day.
  • Must confirm all requested time off (RTO) is final before offer acceptance; no additional RTO will be approved afterward.
  • Candidates should be prepared to support all hospital units as needed, with floating frequency dependent on census and staffing.
  • Prior experience working in Level III or IV NICUs and with neonatal ventilators will be discussed during screening.

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists with NICU expertise and prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in a Level 3 NICU environment.
