Pediatric OR Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Akron, Ohio
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Pediatric Operating Room Registered Nurse needed for a travel/contract assignment.
- Occasional weekend coverage required.
- This is a Magnet-designated facility requiring a BSN degree.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience working in a Pediatric Operating Room.
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting, preferably in pediatrics or a similar area.
- Pediatric experience specifically required for this role.
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Core Competency Parts I, II, and III (updated annually)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (updated annually)
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, and education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or after breaks in service over 30 days.
- Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprinting required within 1 month of start and updated annually. Reprints required if candidate has lived/worked outside Ohio since last fingerprinting.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required after breaks in service over 30 days.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Tdap immunization within 10 years of start.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months; if positive, chest X-ray required (valid within 5 years).
- Immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B: proof of vaccine series, titer, or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Nov 15 – May 31). Medical exemptions require additional facility-specific documentation signed by a licensed provider.
Documentation & Compliance
- Must carry a valid government-issued photo ID while on assignment.
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
- Two positive professional references, including at least one from the most recent employer, addressing relevant pediatric acute care experience.
- Employment application must include 3 years of prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, updated annually.
- Must sign facility-specific agreements including computer security, HIPAA/confidentiality, and float policy for pediatric and ICU areas.
- Completion of Ohio-specific fingerprint clearance attestation and other state-required documents.
Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for PICU and ER
- PCAR (Pediatric Care After Resuscitation) for PICU
