Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Slidell, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day)
  • Call: Required on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 6-week schedule
  • Unit Size: 7 rooms
  • Cases Per Day: 10-25
  • Scrubs: Green scrubs provided

Job Expectations

  • Upon starting, you may be assigned to an Emergency Team with an expectation to stay onsite until the event passes or be part of a relief team during emergency events.
  • Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by the unit manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy required).
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable if verification cannot be completed).
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
  • License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (for select units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series
    • Hepatitis B – positive antibody, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer; declination allowed with signed form
    • Varicella – positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer
  • TB testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 12 months; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required if positive.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
  • Employment application and updated skills checklist (annual).
  • Competency exam specific to specialty, minimum 80%, updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be willing to comply with emergency preparedness protocols, especially during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30).
  • Color passport-style photo required within 24 hours of booking for badge issuance.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit assignment; must be renewed annually.

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required; first-time travelers with adequate OR experience are accepted.
