Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Pediatrics/NICU)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Radius Rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered case-by-case
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Experience working with Neonate patients
- Experience working with Infant patients
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and healthcare exclusion lists
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
- Driver’s License and Social Security Card: Copies required
- Work Eligibility: Attestation confirming US work eligibility and completed I-9 form
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Test: N95 mask fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or documented positive with chest x-ray follow-up
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted) during flu season
- Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Orientation & Training
- Modules: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) required before start
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and competency exams required; pediatric-specific exams preferred but regular exams accepted if no pediatric experience
- Safety Acknowledgement: HIPAA attestation required
Facility Highlights
- Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma designation
- Total staffed beds: 865
- Charting system: Epic
- Parking: Paid parking required for nights and weekends with a one-time $20 pass fee
- Hurricane Season: June through November; staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period
Additional Notes
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval but is not guaranteed
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with application and approved based on unit needs
- Radiation badge not required for this position
- Prior travel experience is not required for this role
