Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Position for a Pediatric Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience.
  • Patient age groups include neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Required to have Level IV NICU experience.
  • Experience with high frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator.
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies.
  • Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks).
  • On-call is not required.
  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly.
  • First-time travelers and local candidates within 75 miles are eligible.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • Certifications (AHA approved only):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID.
  • Social Security Card (if used for I9 verification).
  • Background checks within 90 days of start, including:
    • SSN trace, county, alias, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days.
  • Education verification confirming graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • RRT certification verification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no exemptions).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination or positive antibody titers (no exemptions).
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation.
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Competency exam and unit-specific competency checklist to be completed.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card required or training provided onsite.
  • Facility-specific requirements include setting up a guest account prior to clearance and completing online orientation modules before start.
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor).
  • Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation.
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
  • Candidates switching facilities may need to reactivate guest accounts.
  • Weekend shifts are mandatory as per schedule.
  • No on-call duties.
  • Local candidates within 75 miles receive a slightly adjusted rate (not disclosed here).
