Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • Prior charge nurse experience required for these openings.
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • Float pool position: will float between Med-Surg, Telemetry, and discharge lounge units.
  • Patient age groups: Adults and Geriatrics.
  • Patient care units include:
    • Med-Surg/discharge 12-bed unit
    • Med-Surg/Telemetry float for four 23-bed units
    • Med-Surg float 4-bed unit
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:4.
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
  • Medication system used: Pyxis.
  • Documentation system used: Cerner.
  • Orientation: 64 hours.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification, AVADE training required within 12 months of start and must be renewed annually.

Licensure

  • Must hold an active Alaska RN license or a compact license with proof of Alaska application.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam (renewed annually).
  • Fit mask test (approved facility masks) within 1 year of start, renewed annually. Must be completed prior to arrival.
  • Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (one adult dose required).
  • Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or PPD) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest X-ray within 5 years required. TB questionnaire must be completed annually.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or facility-specific declination form)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required if gap of 30+ days between assignments.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (initial series or J&J dose plus seasonal/bi-valent vaccine). Medical exemptions accepted with doctor’s letter; declinations and religious exemptions are not accepted.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine highly preferred; if in season, vaccine or medical exemption with verifiable diagnosis required by November 15 deadline. Declinations not accepted.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific pre-boarding and onboarding tasks through internal profile system within deadlines.
  • Required to complete mandatory HealthStream training modules during orientation.
  • Must complete and sign various facility-required forms prior to start (e.g., confidentiality statement, badge form, non-employee agreements).
  • Two clinical references required.
  • Clinical skills checklist required.

Work Environment

  • Hospital is a 163-bed Level II trauma center.
  • Float pool nurses cover multiple Med-Surg and Telemetry units.
  • Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 3 nights per week.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alaska
  • Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg and Telemetry nursing experience
  • Med-Surg and Telemetry experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
