Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Overview
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts possible depending on unit needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed to change
- Patient population primarily includes oncology patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving chemotherapy, diagnostic services, and symptom management
- Care involves continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration, symptom management, comorbidity management, infection prevention, and fall prevention
- Equipment used includes GE telemetry monitors (B450), bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Ability to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
- Patient ratio approximately 1:4
Clinical Skills Required
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- PICC line management
- IV starts
- Assisting with chest tube insertion/removal
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA instructor/provider or RQI acceptable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio fingerprinting code (3701.881)
- Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- License verification within 30 days of start, including NURSYS verification for RNs
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Immunizations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella (with booster requirements if low titer)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Facility Policies & Compliance
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and form required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Additional Notes
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Candidates must be prepared to float within units of similar or lower acuity
- Shift assignments may vary based on staffing needs and are subject to change every 4 weeks
- Facility uses specific equipment and telemetry monitoring systems requiring familiarity
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with oncology and telemetry patient care, who have strong clinical skills in line and dysrhythmia management, and who are flexible with rotating shifts and floating assignments.
