Job Opportunity: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Schedule

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • No on-call required
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest stated requirement)
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred but not required

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (AHA certifications only)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Competency with ventilators
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic documentation system (required)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exam (required)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

License Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • License verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license

Background and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • Counties lived/worked nationwide
    • Sex offender registry check
    • Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Adult Tdap vaccination (not older than 10 years, no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients)
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (boosters required if low titer)
  • Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B immunity via titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); mask required if declining

Facility Policies and Training

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Competency with ventilators
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic documentation system
