Shift Details
- Day shift, 4 shifts per week
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total 48 hours per week
- Overtime paid after 48 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- Step Down unit with team nursing model (two nurses + PCT caring for a group of patients)
- Patient conditions include COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Post-COVID
- Care involves telemetry, drips, vents, trach, bipap, high oxygen requirements
- Insulin drips, heparin, Cardizem, and other sporadic drips
- No orally intubated patients on unit
- Navy blue scrubs required
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Floating & Scheduling
- Floating required at employer’s discretion, including to nearby campuses within 10-15 miles
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts due to low census with notice
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA only)
- ACLS (AHA only)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must be passed within 1 year or completed within 72 hours of contract signing)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (within 2 years)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually; exceptions apply)
- Respiratory protection medical clearance and fit testing required prior to orientation
- Other unit-specific competency exams as required
Licensure
- Valid Ohio RN license with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required
Health & Background Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and county checks, sex offender registry
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for work and free of communicable diseases
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
Documentation & Application Requirements
- Current resume/application required
- Work history must clearly show 1:5 ratio experience in step down or PCU
- Two professional references within 2 years required (one must be manager/supervisor/charge nurse) or 1-year work history verification if references unavailable
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year
- E-Verify and I-9 compliance required
- Candidate agreement and annual health questionnaire must be completed prior to documentation due date
Additional Notes
- Team nursing model is currently being trialed; nurses may function in team or primary nursing roles
- Traveler will be first to float and may be assigned to medically appropriate units
- No employee incentives available for travelers
- Request time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no additions after offer
- Manager discretion applies to RTO approval and floating assignments
