Registered Nurse (PACU) - West Virginia
Job Details
- Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Location: Ranson, West Virginia
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift (40 hours/week)
- EMR System: EPIC
Unit & Patient Care
- Covers PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2 recovery areas
- Staffing ratios follow ASPAN guidelines:
- Phase 1: Maximum 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Phase 2: Usually 2 RNs with a total of 3 RNs on the unit; rarely 1:3 ratio
- No floating outside the PACU department; must be able to work all PACU phases (PreOp, Phase 1, Phase 2)
- Scrub color provided
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Pharmacy not in-house 24/7; Pyxis system available
Call & Weekend Requirements
- Call shifts approximately 3-4 per month
- Weekend call counts as 3 call shifts if covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Call is generally light, rarely requiring extended hours past 7 pm
- Call response time: Must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes
- Weekend work typically required about once every 8 weeks
- Holidays covered by call
Orientation & Training
- Floor-specific orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor after hospital orientation
- Orientation consists of four 10-hour day shifts
- Charge Nurse role available in PreOp/PACU
- Nurse aides available in PreOp/PACU
Certifications & Requirements
- Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA) certifications required
- Valid driver’s license with address outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been off the unit for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been off the unit for 2 years after completing a full year
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips system)
Additional Notes
- No IV team support; nurses manage IVs themselves
- Submission limited to one position at a time within the system
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Only two candidates submitted per opening; additional submissions held until a spot opens
This position is ideal for RNs with PACU experience seeking a well-staffed unit with manageable call requirements and comprehensive orientation.
