MRI Tech Travel/Contract Job - Columbia, South Carolina


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Location: Columbia, SC
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM (Day shift, 40 hours/week)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of MRI Technologist experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment as an MRI Technologist
  • ARRT (R)(CT) certification
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Experience working in both acute care and outpatient settings
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in adult acute care and outpatient settings, competent with all age groups (neonate through older adult)
  • Imaging expertise including chest, abdomen, pelvis, head (with and without contrast), musculoskeletal trauma, and spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar)
  • Skilled in contrast media preparation/administration and starting peripheral IVs
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions
  • Experience with imaging equipment from GE, Philips, Siemens, Toshiba, and PACS systems

Job Requirements & Policies

  • Floating to other units/campuses may be required based on census and only to units where qualified and trained
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Must comply with radius rule for local candidates
  • Pending licenses are not accepted

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check within 12 months of start date
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
    • Fingerprinting required if applicable (based on residency and state requirements)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year verifying ability to meet physical demands
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (with specific protocols for positive responders)
    • Immunizations/vaccinations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu (or approved exemptions)
    • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with specific background and quality requirements
  • Online Orientation Modules: Must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
  • Pre-Assignment Testing: Must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login information; includes medication and arrhythmia tests (if applicable)

Certifications & Training (Must be current and valid)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC approved
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - if required by unit
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC, CPI, MAB)
  • Annual competency exams and core training modules (Parts I, II, III) including OSHA, patient safety, and age-specific care

Additional Notes

  • Driver’s license required for computer access and must be carried on duty
  • Must comply with facility-specific floating and scheduling policies
  • Candidates must submit all special scheduling requests with application; approvals are at facility discretion
  • No pending background or license verifications accepted at start
  • Facility is a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with advanced specialty programs

This position is ideal for experienced MRI Technologists with prior travel contract experience seeking a 13-week assignment in a high-acuity hospital setting with advanced imaging technology and comprehensive compliance requirements.
