Description

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Unit Details

  • 3x12-hour shifts, rotating day and night (36 hours per week)
  • Workdays primarily on weekdays with some weekends and rotating holidays required
  • Float to different units within the organization as needed (units of similar or lower acuity)
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Lower Acuity Cardiac
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
  • Cardiac experience preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Med-Surg nursing experience
  • ACLS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Competencies

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
  • State license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG monitoring required
  • Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree (must be from an accredited program)
  • Fingerprinting (Ohio BCI & FBI) required within 1 year of start, with specific code 3701.881
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • Adult Tdap vaccination required (given after age 11/12)
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least 1 must be from a manager/director or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required
  • Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Review and sign ethics and compliance policies annually (new contracts only)
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form required

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a lower acuity cardiac unit
  • Monitor and assess patient conditions, administer medications, and collaborate with the healthcare team
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Float to other units as needed
