Description

Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Big Spring, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: Day shift, 5x8 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
  • Call: Shared call schedule between 2 RNs; on call Mon, Tues, Fri-Sun one week, Wed/Thurs the next, repeating
  • Patient Care: Experience required in recovering patients from general surgery, GI endoscopy, and post-operative care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Fit Mask Test within 6 months prior to start; annual updates required
  • Immunizations/Vaccinations:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or completed series; declination form accepted with conditions
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of disease; boosters if titers negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or facility-specific declination during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31)
    • COVID: Initial series required; boosters not required
  • Drug Testing required within 30 days; must include standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, PCP, methadone, propoxyphene)
  • TB Questionnaire required annually or in lieu of annual TB test

Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID) matching legal name on all documents
  • Social Security Card matching legal name on all documents
  • E-Verify or Attestation required
  • Background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or diploma as placeholder if pending
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, solid background)
  • Completion of facility-specific forms prior to start, including:
    • Non-Employee Information Form
    • Vaccine Exemption Form (if applicable)
    • Applicant Health Record Form
    • Code of Conduct and Compliance Form
    • Compact/Temporary License Declaration of Residency Form
    • Confidentiality Statement Form
    • Information System Security Agreement Form
    • Non-Employee Orientation Update Form
    • Traveler Orientation Review
    • Hepatitis B Declination (if no positive titer)
  • References: 2 required within 3 years of start
  • Resume/Employment Application copy required
  • Skills Checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Legal name must be consistent across all documentation; proof of name change alone is not sufficient
  • Orientation includes pass/fail testing with remediation offered same day if needed
  • Call schedule requires flexibility for weekend and weekday coverage
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs comfortable with post-op patient recovery and flexible call schedules in a travel contract role.
