Description
Job Opportunity: Ortho Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: 38-bed orthopedic unit
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: May float to other Medical-Surgical departments as needed
- Schedule: No block scheduling accommodations
- Locals accepted without radius restrictions
- On-call: None
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, with orthopedic experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- PICC line management skills
- Ability to start IVs

- Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
- Magnet-designated facility
- Total staffed beds: 562
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
- State-specific criminal and offender registry searches required within 30 days of start
- Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS)
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Photo for badge (color, plain background) due before start
- Signed Code of Conduct and parking permit form within 7 days of contract signing
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- References: Two professional references required for travel clinical candidates
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for candidates without an IL license
- Facility accommodates latex allergies
- Candidates should expect up to 5 days off between shifts ideally (RTO restrictions)
This position is ideal for an experienced orthopedic RN comfortable with night shifts, telemetry skills, and working in a high-acuity, Magnet-designated Level I trauma center.
