Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • Bridgeport, Connecticut

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule

  • Night Shift: Four 12-hour shifts every other week (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Floating between Bridgeport and Milford campuses; may rotate through NICU and Pediatric units depending on census and staffing needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including experience within the last year
  • Current BLS certification
  • Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
  • Prior travel experience
  • Experience with Draeger ventilators

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care including use of neonatal oscillating and high frequency jet ventilators
  • May orient students and new hires as needed
  • Support multiple hospital units including NICU and Pediatrics as staffing requires

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (if applicable)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (if applicable)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (required for NICU)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred for ER but relevant trauma experience required
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85% on NICU portion if applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (must score 80% or higher; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
  • Other facility-specific training modules and attestations as required (e.g., Fire Safety, Suicide Risk Assessment, Patient Bedside Rounding, Baxter Pump Interoperability)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, national sex offender, federal and state checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Employment verification covering last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 12 months of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • TB screening: Negative T-Spot or QGold within 6 months or 2 PPDs within 12 months; chest x-ray and questionnaire if positive history
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination accepted)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Must confirm all requested time off (RTO) is final before offer acceptance; no additional RTO approved after acceptance
  • Candidates will be asked about NICU experience, use of specific ventilators, and prior Level III or IV NICU work
  • Floating expectations include support across multiple units based on staffing needs
  • Free parking available

References and Documentation

  • One reference from a supervisor required for RRT candidates
  • Must provide a complete 7-year work history with no gaps over 90 days
  • Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required if applicable to certain units

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists with trauma and ventilator expertise who have prior travel experience and are flexible to float across hospital units including NICU and Pediatrics.
