Job Opportunity: Endoscopy Registered Nurse

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Targeted start date: June 1 or June 15
  • Shift: Monday through Friday, day shifts (options include 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM)
  • Approximately 40 hours per week
  • Possible requirement to work 1 weekend and some weeknights
  • Rotating on-call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Fast-paced environment with rapid turnover
  • Department has 3 procedure rooms, 4 pre-procedure rooms, and 4 post-procedure rooms daily
  • Anesthesia support available for most cases
  • May be asked to stay late on a rotating basis to complete daily schedule

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Endoscopy nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to cover rotating on-call shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are considered; local candidates may have different pay considerations (not included here)
  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue

Compliance and Documentation

Candidates must provide:

  • Valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security card (if used for I9 verification)
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county searches for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches if applicable, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list search
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date (latex allergy acceptable)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with documentation for history of positive PPD)
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years, no exemptions)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive antibody titers, no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (required during flu season, no exemptions)
  • Negative 10-panel drug test (including THC) within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Two professional references from employment within 12 months, including at least one supervisor
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history
  • Annual updates required for skills checklist and TB questionnaire

Orientation and Onboarding

  • Online modules must be completed prior to orientation
  • Facility-specific competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
  • Candidates must set up a facility guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge administered at orientation (passing score 80%)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card required; training provided onsite if not already held

Work Environment Notes

  • No advanced procedures performed in this department
  • Rapid patient turnover requiring efficiency and adaptability
  • Anesthesia support available for most procedures
  • May require flexibility to stay late on occasion to complete daily workload
