Description

Registered Nurse – BMT/Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Rotate Day/Night shifts every other weekend (Night: 18:30–7:00, Day: 7:30–18:00)
  • Approximately 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
  • Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital with 402 staffed beds
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Scrubs not provided; any color allowed without other hospital logos
  • Charting system: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in District of Columbia (must have license prior to start date)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Bone Marrow Transplant experience, including experience within the last year
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
    • ONS Chemotherapy Certification
  • Skills required:
    • Administer chemotherapy
    • Telemetry monitoring

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days including multi-state searches and education verification
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunization documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 VZV vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required (must score 80% or higher; specific lethal rhythm section requires 100%)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Annual acknowledgment of safety manual
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps, including education and license information

Work Environment & Scheduling

  • Weekend shifts roughly every other weekend, depending on unit needs
  • Initial schedule based on unit needs; future schedules consider nurse preferences balanced with unit requirements
  • Required to float to units with equivalent or lower acuity levels

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is required (at least one previous travel assignment or one month per diem)
  • Facility requires strict adherence to immunization and health screening policies
  • Scrubs must be free of other hospital logos and can be any color

This position is ideal for experienced BMT/Oncology RNs with prior travel experience seeking a 13-week travel contract in a large teaching hospital setting.
