Registered Nurse - PCU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 7:15)
Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse role with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Float pool position: no home unit assignment; float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed.
- Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed.
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- No on-call requirement.
- Local candidates accepted.
- No block scheduling accommodation.
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization care
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required.
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
- Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois.
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable.
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams, including dysrhythmia/EKG competency (minimum 80% pass rate), medication/pharmacology competency, and oncology competency if applicable.
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask (N95) testing required annually; must be able to pass fit test or complete quantitative testing if failed.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start (2-step PPD or equivalent).
- Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity required by titer, vaccination, or medical statement; boosters or declinations may be accepted with conditions.
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.), must remain valid throughout assignment.
Documentation & Facility Requirements
- Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred).
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start.
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and regulatory compliance education modules annually.
- Signed HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and latex allergy questionnaire prior to start.
- Annual completion of required training quizzes and documentation uploads.

- No pending licenses accepted.

- Must float within scope of practice to multiple units and campuses.
- No on-call duties.
- Must complete required background checks, immunizations, and competencies prior to start.
- Local candidates within the area radius are accepted.
