ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Chicago, Illinois


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Location: Chicago, IL (local candidates preferred within 75 miles radius)
  • Orientation: First week on day shift (orientation + precepting)
  • Floating: Mandatory float within ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly to Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Request Time Off (RTO): Max 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no RTO on holidays, day before/after holidays, or weekends

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Must be current within 12 months, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; includes SSN trace, nationwide sex offender, OFAC, and others as applicable
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; marijuana testing not required
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
    • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - May 4)
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, color blindness, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start
  • Facility-Specific Forms: Must complete facility-required HIS forms with legal name and signatures prior to start

  • No call requirements
  • No block scheduling
  • References follow state requirements for RNs
  • Must comply with mandatory floating policy within ICU and possibly other units
  • Local candidates receive a different bill rate (not disclosed here)

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating across multiple ICU units, and meeting strict compliance and certification requirements.
