Job Details

  • Position: Operating Room Registered Nurse
  • Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
    • Shift options: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1
  • Med System: Pyxis
  • Scrubs Provided

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Operating Room
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred, including 1.5 years as a surgical screen nurse
  • Clinical Focus Areas: Strong skills required in Thoracic, ENT, Neuro, and Oral surgical services
  • Surgical Services Include:
    • Adult Neurosurgery
    • Adult Otolaryngology
    • Adult Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
    • Adult Thoracic (excluding transplant)
    • Adult Spine (Neuro and Ortho)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Thoracic Surgery
  • Experience in ENT Surgery
  • Experience in Neurosurgery

Facility & Work Environment

  • Part of a Level 1 trauma center with a new 12-story hospital featuring:
    • 264 private rooms convertible to intensive care
    • State-of-the-art neurosciences center
    • Specialty care for cardiovascular and thoracic patients
    • 20 surgical suites and 3 interventional radiology suites
  • Always at least one surgical team in-house during call hours

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Flu Vaccination: Mandatory for 2025-26 flu season (11/1–3/31), no exemptions allowed (medical or religious). Egg-free vaccine available for allergies.
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, must be updated annually
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start (N95 or equivalent masks accepted)
  • TB Testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B – Titer, series, or declination required
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screens not accepted
  • COVID Vaccination: No longer required

Orientation & Testing

  • Orientation pay provided for first week (24-36 hours at discretion)
  • Pass/fail competency testing required for EKG and medication administration for applicable units (PACU, Telemetry, ICU including CVICU)
  • Candidates must review an EKG study guide prior to start
  • Facility-specific orientation paperwork must be completed and submitted within 3 weeks of start date to avoid removal from assignment

Documentation & Background Checks

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks: 7-year history including all counties lived/worked, sex offender registry, nationwide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually
  • Employment application required
  • Facility-specific confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment, and misconduct policy attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • ID badge and pager return required at assignment end to avoid fees

Additional Notes

  • Two supervisory references required at submission (charge nurse references not accepted)
  • On-call response time: 30 minutes
  • Scrubs provided by facility
  • Must complete facility’s Cornerstone training modules and sign attestations before starting
  • Facility uses a new ID management system requiring multiple forms of ID upload before assignment start

This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, specialty surgical environment within a leading trauma center, requiring strong clinical skills and compliance with rigorous health and safety standards.
