Description
Sonographer – Vascular
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Call Requirements:
- At least 1 weeknight call per week (Monday–Friday, 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- 1 weekend call per month (Friday 5:00 PM to Monday 7:00 AM)
- Call is for emergent venous studies only
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
Job Description
- Work in a Level 1 teaching hospital setting within the Radiology Ultrasound (Vascular Technology) department
- Perform vascular ultrasound studies including:
- Carotid Doppler exams
- Segmental Doppler exams (upper and lower extremities)
- Venous Doppler exams (upper and lower extremities)
- Bypass grafts and dialysis grafts
- Transcranial Doppler exams (TCD)
- Mesenteric and renal Doppler studies
- Average workload: approximately 10 studies per day
- Coverage includes adult hospital, children’s hospital, women and infants hospital, and transport patients
- Portable sonographer duties included
- Use of Philips iE33 and EPIQ ultrasound machines, Parks Flow segmental machine, Dolphin IQ TCD machine
- PACS system: ComPacs; EMR system: EPIC (proficiency required, no training provided)
- No IV starts required
- Scrubs provided for procedural areas
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of vascular sonographer experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- ARDMS, RDMS, RVT, or RVS certification required
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency with EPIC charting required (training not provided during orientation)
Orientation & Onboarding
- 2-week department-specific orientation focusing on Doppler lab procedures, documentation, and image review
- Orientation starts on a Monday with on-site modules and hands-on training
- Onboarding must be completed by the Wednesday prior to assignment start date
- Staggered start times between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM
- Lab hours: 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must comply with Mississippi fingerprinting requirements (remote or in-person options available)
- Flu vaccine required by November 15 (medical exemptions allowed with documentation; masked if exempt)
- Must submit:
- Current references in vascular sonography
- Resume detailing number of beds and trauma level of previous facilities (last 3 years)
- Employment type for previous roles (permanent, travel, PRN)
- Job duties and average scan volume for last 2-3 years
- Local candidates accepted under specific conditions (not detailed here)
- Call schedule includes neuro patient serial TCDs and DVT-related studies on weekends
- No Registered Radiology Assistants (RRA) support available
- Manager evaluates candidates based on experience in all listed vascular exam types
Work Environment
- High-volume hospital setting with multiple imaging rooms and portable scanning
- Provider (radiologist or fellow/resident) available on-site or on-call
- Staff rotate holiday coverage and weekend call
- Scrub dispensers available for hospital-laundered procedural scrubs
This position is ideal for a vascular sonographer with solid inpatient experience, ARDMS RVT certification, and comfort working in a busy, multi-facility hospital environment with call responsibilities.
