Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Respiratory Therapist - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Position requires a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience.
  • Patient age groups include neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Must have Level IV NICU experience.
  • Experience with high-frequency jet ventilators and oscillating ventilators.
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies is required.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.

Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only

Licensure

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina.

Schedule Requirements

  • Must work 6 weekend shifts per schedule cycle (schedule published in 6-week blocks).
  • No on-call requirement.

Orientation

  • Orientation sessions are held bi-weekly.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID.
  • Social Security card (only if used for I9 verification).
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county, alias, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list.
  • Education verification confirming graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Polio vaccine or attestation.
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
  • TB questionnaire updated annually.
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor).
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually).
  • Competency exam and unit-specific competency checklist to be completed within 3 weeks after start.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card training provided onsite if candidate does not have one.

Additional Requirements

  • Must set up a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Completion of required online modules prior to orientation.
  • Facility-specific first day instructions and orientation materials provided before start.
  • Color blind testing required only for phlebotomists (not applicable here).
  • Pass/fail testing (EKG/medication) administered at orientation (not required for RRTs).

Notes

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are considered.
  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file.
