Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Edmonds, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn units.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Patient diagnoses include Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn care.
  • Perform special procedures such as:
    • Vaginal and Cesarean deliveries
    • Circulating in the Operating Room
    • Starting adult IVs
    • Administering blood and blood products
    • Managing drains, epidural pumps, and PCA pumps
    • Administering insulin and magnesium sulfate
  • Use specialized equipment for high-risk antepartum, high-risk labor and delivery, LDRP, low-risk antepartum/labor and delivery, OB-GYN, and pre/post-operative care.
  • Provide couplet care (mother and newborn).
  • Staff-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP), Postpartum, and Maternal-Newborn care.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Intermediate
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable).
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
  • Education verification for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation.
  • NURSYS license verification required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work and free of infectious disease.
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer, with declination accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with declination accepted
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination accepted
    • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations allowed with adherence to masking policies
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • Fit mask test required for travel nurses, updated annually.
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.
  • Skills checklist for applicable units, updated annually.

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned learning management system.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or completion of fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam required for Labor and Delivery nurses.
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Competency exams and medication aide exams required for specific roles if applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Float policy acknowledgment: May be required to float to other facilities within reasonable distance.
  • Photo for badge with neutral background required prior to start.
  • State-specific background and registry checks as required by Washington state law.
  • Multi-state licensed nurses working with out-of-state compact licenses must complete demographic attestations prior to start.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week assignment length.
  • Day shift only, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Compact nursing licenses are accepted and honored.
