Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location
- Saint Louis, Missouri

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory Care (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- No on-call required
- No floating outside scope of practice
- Local candidates within 75-mile radius not accepted
- Pending license accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Facility and Work Environment
- Children's Acute Care Hospital with 400 staffed beds
- Teaching hospital environment
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Any or facility-branded T-shirts/jackets
- Parking available with daily garage rates
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (driver’s license for home health positions)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest related degree required before start
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Professional license primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
- Annual regulatory compliance education and HIPAA acknowledgement
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including pediatric competency exam and NICU pharmacology section
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required; RRTs must meet passing scores
- Pass/fail medication and EKG testing at orientation
- Additional certifications such as Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) if applicable per unit
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
This position is ideal for respiratory therapists with NICU/PICU experience seeking a travel contract in a pediatric acute care setting with night shifts and a structured compliance process.
