Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Technologist
Location: Newton, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 08:00 AM – 04:30 PM
Job Description
- Perform ultrasound studies including Abdomen, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Basic Vascular, and small parts.
- May perform interventional procedures.
- Obtain two points of patient identification and relevant patient history; review clinical history, test results, and lab data for accurate exam interpretation.
- Explain exams to patients considering their physical and emotional needs while maintaining patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Deliver patient care within scope of license and training.
- Use universal precautions and patient-specific safety techniques.
- Operate all ultrasound equipment; report malfunctions and needed repairs.
- Rotate within department, divisions, and off-site clinics as required.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with departmental and other hospital personnel.
- Complete paperwork, PACS, RIS, and reporting functions for each exam.
- Prepare equipment, rooms, and supplies for patient exams; maintain stock and general department areas.
- Stay current on imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment; participate in continuing education programs.
- Transport and transfer patients according to departmental guidelines.
- Use independent judgment and initiative under pressure during patient exams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist within the last year.
- Successful completion of ARDMS certification (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Required Credentials & Compliance
- Background Checks: Criminal background check, Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, National Sex Offender Check, and Exclusion Checks (OIG, GSA, Medicaid lists).
- Health Requirements:
- Documentation of MMR vaccination or immunity proof.
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test), updated if break >6 months.
- Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 1 year of start date, updated if break >6 months.
- Fit test for N95 respirator within 1 year of start date, updated annually (no exemptions allowed).
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation if fit test required.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military.
- Professional Documentation:
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
- Two professional references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher.
- Skills checklist completed within 1 year.
- Confirmation of assignment/POI form for initial assignments and extensions.
- Primary source verification of professional license/certification within 30 days of start date; MA conditional licenses not accepted.
Additional Information
- Rotation may include various department locations and off-site clinics.
- Continuing education and staying current with imaging trends is expected.
- Must maintain professional conduct and patient confidentiality at all times.
