Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

Location: Bedford, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:30)
Unit: 15-bed Emergency Department / Critical Access Hospital
Work Setting: General ED - combined adult and pediatric patients


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department (ED), with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
  • Experience in management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with central line care and management
  • Experience administering continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation

Candidate Requirements

  • Locals are NOT accepted for this travel assignment
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required)
  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test (N95 or approved respirators) within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and Health Screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Required vaccinations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or above
  • Employment application: Current with full work history and explanations for any gaps over 30 days within the last 7 years
  • Skills checklist: Completed within 12 months and updated annually
  • Competency exams: Medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing: Ishihara exam or equivalent with 100% minimum score

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in a combined adult and pediatric emergency department
  • Manage cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Administer IV therapy, blood products, and medications including sedation and vasopressors
  • Perform phlebotomy and central line care
  • Participate in triage and apply isolation precautions
  • Care for neurological/psychiatric patients, including stroke (CVA) cases

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this assignment
  • Facility-specific orientation and compliance forms must be completed as a priority before start
  • On-site fit testing is available only as a last resort and requires prior approval
  • This is a night shift position with 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
