Description

Job Opportunity: Certified OB Tech

Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Work Schedule:

  • Block schedules required
  • Weekends required every other weekend
  • No on-call required
  • No floating between units
  • Patient ratio: 1:1

  • Parking: No fee
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed; OR/Cath Lab scrubs provided

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technician
  • Surgical Technician experience within the last year
  • Experience as an OB Technician

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (as applicable for I9 verification)
  • E-Verify attestation required
  • Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly
  • Education verification required (nursing degree or related education as applicable)
  • State-specific searches as applicable (Oregon Abuse/Neglect, Washington State Patrol, OBRA Registry for CNAs in Washington)
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation
  • Fit mask test (respirator fit testing) required for travel candidates, updated annually
  • Immunizations and screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted)
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated candidates must follow infection prevention protocols
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (10-panel for some Per Diem candidates)

Training & Competency

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Competency exams required by specialty/unit
  • Color Blind Testing if specifically requested by unit or manager
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) training or certification required for Labor & Delivery RNs (if applicable)
  • Medication Aide exam required for Trained Medication Assistants (TMAs) in LTC settings (if applicable)

Facility & Regional Requirements

  • Block scheduling and weekend work every other weekend required
  • Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other nearby facilities within the region
  • Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)
  • Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp) required
  • Epic training modules required for clinical staff working in OR or related units; must complete within one week of orientation
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates

Additional Notes

  • No floating between units for this position
  • 48-hour shifts are not approved
  • Parking is free for staff
  • Candidates must comply with all state-specific and facility-specific background and health screening requirements
  • References and employment history must be verifiable and meet minimum standards

This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a large acute care teaching hospital with a focus on surgical services in obstetrics. Candidates should be prepared for block scheduling and weekend work every other weekend, with a 1:1 patient ratio. Compliance with comprehensive background checks, certifications, immunizations, and training is mandatory.
