Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Ontario, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract (Part-Time)
Shift: Night, 2 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Must be willing to float to ICU units at other campuses if census drops to maintain hours.
- Evening On/Evening Off (EOW) schedule required.
- Time off requests limited to no more than 7 days; missed shifts must be made up.
- If placed on-call, must return to facility within 1 hour.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 3:1.
- Knowledge of medication scanning required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of recent and consecutive ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience in an acute care setting, with ICU experience within the last year.
- One completed travel assignment.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in an acute care setting.
Compliance and Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check required upon hire and updated annually, including:
- SSN trace
- County criminal checks for places lived/worked/schooled
- National criminal search
- National sex offender registry
- OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control)
- Education verification
- OH BCI and FBI fingerprint attestation required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Candidates may start with fingerprints pending if a clear background check is on file.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated with each contract renewal.
Orientation and Training Requirements
- Completion of online Healthstream modules by 4 PM EST on due date, including:
- Wounds independent study
- Clinical RN onboarding assignments (policy reviews)
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually (minimum 80% score).
- Review and sign unit-specific new employee packet and job description prior to start.
- Skills check-offs for specific competencies (e.g., Stat Strip Nova Glucometer, Aseptic Compounding IV Medications) to be completed onsite during first week.
- Completion of new hire orientation and sign-off forms prior to documentation due date.
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire required and must be stored per facility instructions.
- Attendance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
Additional Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- If previously worked with the facility for over 1 year, performance evaluation on file required; over 2 years, internal evaluation required.
- Complete employment application/resume.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license within 30 days of start.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background, JPEG format).
Staffing and Scheduling Notes
- Part-time position with 24 hours per week (2 shifts of 12 hours).
- Must submit all time off requests in advance; no more than 7 days allowed.
- Missed shifts must be made up; if scheduled to work during requested time off, traveler must find coverage.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a part-time night shift role in Ohio with flexibility to float between campuses.
