Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a very busy, fast-paced Emergency Room (ER) with 54 beds serving both pediatric and adult patients.
• The ER is a Level 2 Trauma Center with high patient volume and acuity, averaging 220 patients per day.
• Shift: Evening, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM).

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• One year or more of total travel nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • TNCC
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Health & Safety Requirements

• Vaccinations:

  • Flu vaccine (no exemptions allowed)
  • 2-Step PPD or equivalent TB test within 1 year (with specific timing for 2-step PPD)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (titer, vaccination, or declination accepted)
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
• Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start.
• Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start and must be updated annually. Acceptable masks include 3M Aura 1870+ and several Makrite and Moldex models.
• Additional: Annual TB questionnaire and NIH Stroke Certification (AHA or APEX) required, with the option to complete onsite if needed.

Documentation & Compliance

• Proof of 2 clinical references required.
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required annually.
• Driver’s license/state ID copy required, matching state residency for compact license holders.
• E-Verify or attestation proof required.
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement or signed HIPAA form required.
• NURSYS verification as applicable.
• Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable, updated annually.

Additional Notes

• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are eligible for a differential.
• Fingerprinting via Maryland CJIS/DSS/FBI required for school placements only.
• Candidates must complete required certifications and health documents prior to or shortly after start date to avoid removal from the floor.

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with prior travel experience seeking a challenging, high-acuity environment in a Level 2 Trauma Center.
