Registered Nurse (Stepdown Unit) - Morgantown, West Virginia

Position Details

  • Specialty: Stepdown (8 Southeast Stepdown Unit)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
  • Unit Size: 32 beds
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Stepdown assignments: 1:3
    • Combo assignments (mix of stepdown and floor patients): 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Saturday, Sunday, Saturday)
  • Holiday Requirement: Required to work holidays if needed
  • Call/Standby: No call or standby required
  • Floating: Very rare
  • Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation including nights, holidays, and weekends as scheduled

Patient Population & Care

  • Post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients
  • No ventilators on unit; use of BiPAP and tracheostomies present
  • RNs interpret and chart patient rhythms every 4 hours or more frequently during medication titration
  • Centralized telemetry monitors at nurse’s station and patient rooms; telemetry team interprets and files EKG strips

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience required
  • Ability to titrate drips and read cardiac strips
  • Titration of drips performed under MD orders
  • Common titratable/set rate drips include: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix (no vasopressors)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an address outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (2 doses of Moderna or Pfizer, or 1 dose of J&J)
    • Medical or religious exemptions require timely submission of exemption forms for approval
  • Previous permanent candidates must have been off the unit for 2 years before reapplying
  • Previous travelers must have been off the unit for 2 years after completing a full year on the unit

Staffing & Support

  • 1 Charge Nurse and 3 House Supervisors on-site per shift
  • 3-4 CNAs per shift

Note: Only one submission per candidate is allowed at a time across the system. Travel teams must be submitted together.
