Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Med Surg Telemetry Unit (Ortho)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit & Facility Overview

• Acute care telemetry medical surgical unit with orthopedic patients
• 25+ private beds, patient acuity ranges from moderate to high
• Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:5-6
• No ventilated patients on the unit
• Large hospital environment with 1,059 beds, Magnet status, and Level II trauma center
• Electronic Medical Record system: Epic
• Navy scrubs required
• Schedule includes every other weekend off, no call, holidays based on need
• First to float on the unit

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Orthopedics nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements & Compliance

• Traveler’s permanent address must be more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Background check: 7-year history including SS trace, county searches, nationwide criminal search, sex offender search, and sanctions screening
• Drug screen: Negative 9 or 10 panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (marijuana tested, no medical marijuana exemptions)
• Physical exam: Work physical within 2 years, clearance to work without restrictions
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • TB test (2 PPDs, QGold, TSpot, or MTB) within 6 months of start
  • Required titers or vaccinations for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
  • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required for the flu season
• Respirator fit test documentation within 1 year if respirator use is required
• Competency exams:

  • Unit-specific competency exam within 2 years of start
  • EKG competency exam required (EKG included if passed in unit-specific exam)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 2 years of start
• Fingerprinting required onsite or at designated locations prior to or on first day of orientation
• Completion and signing of facility-specific agreements and policies prior to start

This position is ideal for RNs with solid Med Surg Telemetry and Orthopedic experience seeking a travel contract in a large, high-acuity hospital setting on a night shift schedule.
