Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-acuity, and fast-paced Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float responsibilities include postpartum and antepartum care; may float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OB patients, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Must function as a Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum (including eye care, thigh assessments, and Vitamin K injections).
- Circulating nurse duties in the OR are required.
- Experience with high-risk L&D, electronic fetal monitoring (EPIC system), and adherence to AWHONN guidelines is essential.
- Exposure to medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate is expected.
- Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs, including working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington State.
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Must be able to circulate in the OR.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
Background and Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide sex offender registry, education verification, and other checks as applicable.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma or CES report.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Work history verification required if exceptions to reference requirements are requested.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp) required.

- Must have government-issued photo ID and Social Security card as applicable.
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to nearby facilities.
- EPIC electronic health record system experience preferred; EPIC training modules must be completed as assigned.
- Schedule includes working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Candidates without required certifications or skills (e.g., newborn care, circulating) will not be considered.
