Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30)
Patient Population:
- Neuroscience ICU patients including hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), aneurysms, vascular malformations (open or endovascular intervention)
- Mild to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI)
- Planned surgical tumor removals
- Primary neurological conditions such as ischemic stroke requiring tPA and/or thrombectomy, seizure disorders, and neuro infections
- Some medical and surgical overflow
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with at least 1 year of ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with external ventricular drain (EVD) management
- Experience with craniotomy procedures
- Experience with burr hole procedures
- Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Orientation and Testing Requirements
- Pass a Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 80% (only two attempts allowed)
- Complete medication/pharmacology competency exam with at least 80% in dosage calculations
- Orientation testing is pass/fail with an 80% passing score required
- Annual stroke education modules required for Neuro ICU and related units
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start date
Background and Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific searches
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening within the past 12 months (pending drug screens at start are at discretion)
- Physical exam within 1 year (not required by facility but needed for agency)
- Mask fit test within 12 months (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers required or declination forms accepted for:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination or declination (for tracking purposes)
- TB testing: Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Professional badge photo meeting specified criteria
- Completion and signing of facility-specific documents including license acknowledgment, equipment safety, health history, policies and procedures, job description, PCIS agreement, personal data form, and code of conduct
- WA State license complaint clearance check required prior to start
- Candidates must complete demographic attestation if working with a multi-state compact license in Washington
Work Environment and Other Details
- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma center
- Charting system: Epic with hard stops
- Scrub color: Any solid color; light blue scrubs provided on unit
- Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (details provided separately)
- Locals accepted without radius restrictions
- Block scheduling not accommodated
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Neuro ICU setting with a diverse neurological patient population requiring advanced critical care nursing skills. Night shift nurses will be expected to maintain high competency in telemetry and neurocritical care protocols.
