Job Opportunity: Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Provide intermediate level care to pediatric patients (ages 0-18) with hematology, bone marrow transplant (BMT), and oncology diagnoses.
- May care for obstetric patients under 18 with new Hem/Onc/BMT diagnoses on a case-by-case basis.
- Some pediatric oncology patients may be followed until age 25.
- Patient diagnoses include leukemia, brain tumors, bone tumors, sarcoma, lymphomas, blood and immunological diseases, storage diseases, BMT, and Graft vs Host Disease.
- Support provided to Hem/Onc/BMT patients on other units, including chemotherapy support and expertise with central lines.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend work required
- Floating within the hospital required; no floating to sister hospitals
- No call required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oregon
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience
- Certifications:
- ACLS
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS issued by American Heart Association
- NRP
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card
Additional Requirements & Information
- Must complete facility-specific training modules prior to start (Compass modules) to receive badge on first day
- Medication override test provided during orientation (not required before start)
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Facility requires full availability for compliance needs up until start date; planned absences must be communicated in advance
- No accommodation for block scheduling unless otherwise stated
- Locals accepted
- Return-to-Work restrictions: maximum 1 week
- Facility uses EPIC for charting
- Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center, and teaching hospital
Summary
This is a pediatric oncology travel RN position requiring specialized experience in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplant care. The role involves night shifts with weekend requirements and floating within the hospital. Candidates must hold current Oregon RN licensure (or have pending application), required certifications, and meet comprehensive health and background screening standards. First-time travelers with sufficient experience are welcome.
Note: All certifications must be AHA provider approved; instructor or certificate of completion types are not accepted.
