Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Schedule includes working every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Facility type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- May float to other MedSurg units as needed
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Nurse license valid in Connecticut (or Compact license with CT application within 72 hours if not held)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC for ER, CPI for Behavioral Health)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Oncology experience within the last year, minimum 1 year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO or ONS or ONCC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Oncology
- Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing (must score 80% or higher) for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for RNs in Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, IR/Cath/EPEndo/GI, Labor and Delivery units (not required for NICU, Psych/Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Ambulatory)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be clean-shaven for testing
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation as applicable
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred
Training and Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of multiple mandatory training modules with signed attestations, including but not limited to:
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric
- Preventing Pressure Injury
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen
- Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
Background and Documentation Requirements
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of last 7 years of employment (attestations not accepted)
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months, including multiple national and state checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Transcript or diploma verification as needed
- Sex offender search
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units
