Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Med-Surg/Telemetry Nights

Shift Details

  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • 3 shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Unit & Patient Care

  • Med-Surg/Telemetry unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
  • Direct patient care responsibilities
  • May be required to float between nearby locations and within the facility as needed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg/Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (verify during onboarding)

Licensure

  • Pending licenses not accepted
  • Primary source verification of professional license required

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
  • State-specific exclusion and sanction list checks for Illinois placements
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; yearly TB questionnaire required
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and Tdap (with some unit-specific exemptions not applicable here)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
  • Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code, and latex allergy questionnaire
  • Regulatory compliance education and orientation modules must be completed annually via online platform
  • Candidates must adhere to fingernail policy or risk being sent home from shifts

Scheduling & Other Notes

  • No on-call requirement
  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • Local radius rule: candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius to qualify as travelers
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days off within the 13-week contract

This position offers a structured night shift schedule on a Med-Surg/Telemetry unit with a supportive nurse-to-patient ratio and a Magnet hospital environment. It is suitable for RNs with at least one year of relevant experience, including those new to travel nursing.
