ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Fishers, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Critical Care Float Nurse position requiring floating between ICU, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (MS), and Emergency Department (ED) as needed.
  • Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
  • Must be able to manage higher patient ratios and adapt to multiple units.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association accepted)
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • Education: Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Additional Requirements

  • Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract.
  • Ventilator, Artic Sun, and Balloon Pump experience preferred (Balloon Pump use is rare).
  • Must have strong ICU and PCU skills; first-time travelers are not accepted.
  • Local candidates are not accepted.

Clinical Environment & Patient Population

  • Units include ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, Acute Shock.
  • Procedures and equipment may include Cath Lab, TR Bands, Sheath Pulls, EEGs, Cardioversion, and Stress Tests.

Facility Information

  • Short-Term Acute Care facility with multiple staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Cerner.
  • Parking: Free.
  • Scrub color: Red tops and black bottoms.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG within required timeframes.
  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations not accepted.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP).
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score.
  • Skills checklist and competency exams required annually.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years.

Important Notes

  • Indiana RN travelers are generally not accepted after 11/30/2024 except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN specialties. This ICU position is not exempt.
  • Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start.
  • Guaranteed hours vary by shift pattern: 36 to 48 hours per week depending on schedule.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with floating across multiple critical care units and working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care environment.
