Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Weekly Hours: 36 hours
Contract Length: Approximately 26 weeks


Job Description

  • Position floats between units based on skill set; may include multiple facilities within reasonable distance.
  • Expected patient ratio: 1:1
  • Pediatric PACU experience is required. Pediatric preoperative experience is preferred.
  • No on-call, weekend, or block schedule requirements.
  • Must have a vehicle for assignment travel between facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of pediatric nursing experience, with pediatric experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Pediatric PACU (Post Anesthetic Care Unit) experience required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Experience Requirements

  • Pediatric PACU experience is mandatory.
  • Pediatric preoperative experience is preferred but not required.
  • Prior travel experience is required (indicated by "JULY START TRAVEL EXP" and floating expectations).

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card (as applicable).
  • Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; instants acceptable.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (travel only).
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination accepted.
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
  • Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required.
  • References: Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
  • Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other units or facilities within the region.

Facility and Work Environment

  • Short Term Acute Care facility with 536 staffed beds.
  • Teaching hospital environment.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Parking: No fee.
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed except OR/Cath Lab where scrubs are provided.

Summary

This is a travel contract opportunity for a Pediatric PACU RN with pediatric post-anesthesia care experience, working day shifts in a short-term acute care teaching hospital setting in Portland, Oregon. The role requires flexibility to float between units and facilities, adherence to comprehensive background and health compliance, and completion of required certifications and training. Prior travel experience is expected.
