Cath Lab Tech - Roanoke, Virginia (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Primarily 4 shifts of 10 hours (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM) and 1 shift of 8 hours (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM), plus on-call duties
  • Hours per Week: 40 hours

Scheduling & On-Call Requirements

  • Must take 7 on-call shifts and 5 late shifts every 6 weeks
  • One full weekend of call (Friday through Sunday) scheduled together per 6-week period
  • One Saturday shift for elective cases required each 6-week period
  • Must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes when called
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Must be available to work or take call one holiday per 13-week contract (rotational)
  • Locals within 50-99.9 miles may be approved for one 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers not accepted

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • ARRT(R) or CCI RCIS certification
  • Virginia state license preferred for ARRT(R); emergency authorization available for travelers while permanent license processes
  • Active state license (in hand or pending) accepted

Required Clinical Skills

  • Proficient in cardiac cath lab procedures including:
    • Left and right heart catheterization (LHC, RHC)
    • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), PTCA, stent placement
    • Atherectomy, temporary pacer, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip
  • Skilled in sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
  • Experienced in hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
  • Familiar with diagnostic/interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions, equipment handling, and supply management

Unit & Patient Population

  • Adult patients served
  • 6 procedure rooms with daily census of 15–20 patients
  • Common diagnoses: coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure, atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closures
  • Advanced procedures performed: TAVR, left atrial appendage closures, Cardiomems, thrombectomy, mitral clips, renal denervation, research protocols
  • Equipment used includes: IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, laser, OCT, IVUS

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (not required annually unless 30+ day break in assignments)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Photo for badge (professional, plain background) required
  • Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Radiation badge must be supplied by the facility (not provided by agency)

References & History

  • Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Annual skills checklist update required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cath Lab Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Cath Lab Technologist
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ARRT (R) or CCI certification
  • Proficient in hemodynamic monitoring
  • Experience with supply management
