Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Pennsylvania, York
Job Summary
- Position: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
- Location: York, Pennsylvania
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours per week: 36
- Flexibility: Willingness to rotate day/night shifts is a plus
- Weekend and holiday coverage required (every other weekend and as needed)
- May be required to float to other units including ICU and acute care
Unit Description
- Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) with 10 beds
- Patient population: Critically ill stroke patients (ischemic and hemorrhagic), non-traumatic neurosurgery and neurology patients 18+ years
- Provides post-operative care for neurosurgery and neuro-endovascular surgery procedures such as:
- ICP monitoring
- Care post IV and/or IA tPA administration
- Mechanical thrombectomy
- AVM repair, aneurysm repair, carotid stenting
- Craniotomy
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Ventilator management
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- May care for COVID-19 patients
- Tobacco and fragrance-free facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
- Minimum 2 years Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be current)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Clinical experience with:
- External Ventricular Drain (EVD) management
- Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
- Post-angiogram care
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Carotid procedures
- Embolization procedures
Screening & Onboarding
- Clinical pre-screening to determine fit before manager interview
- Maximum Return to Office (RTO) time: 7 days
- Background checks required including:
- 7-year criminal background check
- PA State Police PATCH search (must be finalized prior to start)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- PA FBI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search (must be completed within 5 years; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days)
- Education verification of highest degree required
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (for agency only)
- Professional references: 2 required within 3 years
- Employment application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP
- N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (approved mask types specified)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or full vaccine series + declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters as needed
- Mumps – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters as needed
- Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters as needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters as needed
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days; PPD not accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or valid medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine or valid medical/religious exemption/declination accepted
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (pass/fail) required within 72 hours of contract signing
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required within 48 hours of contract signing
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Clear, professional passport-style photo for badge
- Completion and signing of facility documents including:
- Code of Conduct
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Commitment to Health & Wellness
- Non-Employee Affidavit
- Completion of Learning Management System (LMS) modules on PC/laptop prior to start (not available on mobile devices)
- New hire orientation must be completed by end of first day
Additional Notes
- One hardship shift may be required depending on assignment timeframe
- Candidate must be prepared for weekend and holiday shifts as needed
- Floating to other units may be required
