Description
Respiratory Therapist Travel Assignment
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Travel assignment as a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital setting.
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday requirement: Must work if scheduled during holidays.
- No call or standby call required.
- Floating may be required to nearby medical centers within the region.
Patient Population & Unit
- Inpatient respiratory therapy covering adults, pediatrics, and NICU patients.
- RTs assigned to pediatric floors will also cover adults; RTs on adult floors will not cover pediatrics.
- Typical patient load: 36-42 treatments per 12-hour shift or 12-14 treatments every 4 hours.
Required Certifications & Skills
- Certifications:
- Adult patients: BLS, ACLS
- Pediatric patients: BLS, PALS
- NICU patients: BLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Preferred credential: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Acceptable credential: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 3-5 years of experience.
- Experience:
- RRT: Minimum 2-3 years required.
- CRT: Minimum 3-5 years required.
- Must have experience with adult, NICU, and pediatric patients.
- NICU experience must include knowledge of NAVA (Naturally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist) on Servo ventilators.
- First-time travel therapists are acceptable.
Job Duties
- Manage all respiratory therapy equipment, treatments, patient transport, and arterial blood gases (ABGs).
- Assist with intubations; independent intubation not required.
- No EKG responsibilities.
Equipment Used
- Ventilators: Draeger (adults), Servo U (pediatrics).
- Other devices: V60 BiPAPs, Vapotherm high flow, Optiflow (NICU and PICU), Philips Cough Assist, ResMed home CPAP, HillRom Vest percussion, Hill-Rom Metaneb.
Staffing & Support
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7.
- Lead respiratory therapist present on each shift, covering emergency department, staffing, and acting as a resource.
- Manager and supervisor available during daytime hours.
- Multiple respiratory therapists on site per shift (15-20 on days, 10-12 on nights); traveler will not be the only RT in-house.
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation typically 2-3 shifts:
- 1 shift for adult floor care.
- Additional shifts if covering pediatrics and NICU.
- Extra shift if covering adult ICU.
Dress Code
- Professional and clean attire; scrub color is flexible.
Additional Notes
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidate eligibility based on permanent address.
- Scheduling is managed by a scheduler; travelers are placed where needed with some accommodation for preferred blocks but no guarantees.
- Overtime may be available.
